Khin Zaw Latt, stay strong in silence
Some works reveal more through what they suggest rather than what they show.
WithThe Strength Within Silence, Khin Zaw Latt creates a space where everyone is free to enter with their own memories and experiences.
Conflicts, wars, a constant din… occupying our horizon more and more every day. The voices of anger echo louder than those of compassion, the desire to conquer suffocates the aspiration for peace. In Myanmar (Burma), where the situation remains extremely difficult, Khin Zaw Latt chooses to explore the path of hope : “Even in the midst of chaos, hope does not disappear ».
The eighteen paintings brought together by Khin Zaw Latt seem immersed in the same atmosphere. Large gray acrylic washes spread across the canvas, forms appear, yet their outlines remain indistinct. Nothing is truly stable, nor completely explicit.
“To me, peace is no longer something that shouts. It survives as a whisper : soft, vulnerable, yet persistent. Silence is not weakness or surrender. It is the courage to remain human when surrounded by hostility, and the strength to continue believing in hope when the world seems consumed by darkness. "
Through these paintings, the artist invites us to listen, not to the noise that surrounds us, but to the quiet voice that remains within. The exhibition does not tell of a victory over chaos. it speaks of what continues to exist when uncertainty cannot be dispelled.
Four series, One breath
The exhibition is structured around four groups of works that engage in dialogue with one another.
The six paintings ofWhispers of Peace open the course. A white dove crosses almost monochrome landscapes where greys and blacks dominate. It never appears as a conquering emblem. Its presence is discreet, almost fragile. It does not transform the landscape ; it simply reminds us that something remains.
WithWhere Doves Gather, the narrative evolves subtly, the title suggests movement, possibility, a place to come together. It is also in this series that small red touches appear. Their meaning remains open. They draw the eye without ever imposing themselves. Wounds, tensions, or simply a pictorial necessity ? Khin Zaw Latt offers no explanation, leaving each visitor free to construct their own interpretation.
The third set, Silence Abundance, is unexpected. Doves disappear to make way for everyday objects : a teapot, an apple, a bowl, a sculpture. Nothing is demonstrative. These objects simply speak of life continuing, of familiar gestures, of the points of reference we hold onto, when everything else seems uncertain. Their simplicity lends them a meditative presence.
The four large-format works"Strength of Life", "Silent Beauty", "Seeking Beauty in Chaos"and "Beauty in Stillness"which conclude the exhibition extend this reflection without breaking with the earlier works. The backgrounds remain dark, the greys omnipresent. Yet, flowers appear. Iris, sunflowers or colorful wildflowers pierce the darkness, carry a message. In Khin Zaw Latt's work, nature does not celebrate the return of a peaceful world. It simply reminds us that life always finds a way.
A painting born from the experience of Myanmar
Originally from Myanmar, Khin Zaw Latt does not deliver a manifesto. He prefers suggestion to assertion, leaving his paintings open to multiple readings.
Without seeking to directly illustrate current events, his work speaks above all about the human condition. It evokes emotions that cross borders : fear, hope, fragility, compassion and that remarkable ability to continue believing in peace when everything seems to invite despair.
One may see it as a meditation on peace, on fragility, perseverance or the capacity to preserve a measure of humanity when everything appears to be faltering. Others may read it as a more intimate reflection on time, memory, or the beauty of simple things.
This restraint is the strength of his work. The paintings do not provide answers ; they open a space of contemplation in which everyone is free to project their own experience.
