L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue : a town that celebrates art, literature and connection
Famous worldwide for its clear river, shaded squares under century-old plane trees, art galleries and antique markets, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, is a charming Provençal town, a land of inspiration and encounters. The town beats to the rhythm of literary and artistic festivals that transform its narrow streets, squares and riverbanks into open-air stages. All year round, lovers of art, literature, cinema, music and tradition gather here to share in a living, refined heritage.
The Antiques and Brocante Fair : an international rendezvous

Twice a year, at Easter and in August, L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue becomes the world capital of antiques and brocante. Exhibitors, from across Europe and beyond, line the streets and riverbanks with their stalls. Rare objects, period furniture, artistic curiosities and contemporary design pieces : turn this festival into both a market and an open-air museum. Experienced collectors and elegant strollers cross paths in a unique atmosphere, where treasure hunting becomes a true art of living.
Cultural festivals in L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue : when art, music, cinema and tradition bring the town to life
Throughout the year, the town’s heritage sites, galleries and cultural venues create a true journey through living art. Photography and painting exhibitions, contemporary installations, tributes to major artists… these events make the town an increasingly sought-after destination for art lovers. Blending modernity and heritage, they reflect the refined and curious taste of their audience.
Lire sur la Sorgue : when words come alive, literature becomes a living experience
Every spring, the town transforms into a living literary stage where books meet people, and conversations bloom with authors, illustrators, publishers, and musicians
With Lire sur la Sorgue, literature is experienced as much as it is read. This festival, which stands out as one of the most convivial festivals in southern France, attracts prestigious voices and new talents alike. It stands out for its intimate format : author talks, literary breakfasts, poetic naps, writing workshops, outdoor readings and cross-performances with music and illustration. The audience is never a passive spectator : it becomes part of a sensitive dialogue with the authors. “Lire sur la Sorgue” is not a book fair, it is a festival of experiences.

Over the years, have taken part Hervé Le Tellier ((Prix Goncourt)), Agnès Martin-Lugand, Tonino Benacquista, Karine Giebel, Caryl Férey, Christophe Galfard, René Fregni, Jean Christophe Rufin or Amanda Sthers and Alice Zéniter. More recently, Catherine Meurisse, renowned illustrator and member of the Académie française, left her luminous mark on the festival.
As part of this event, La Maison sur la Sorgue welcomes writers and artists, offering its elegant salons for privileged encounters, where literature flows into conversation and shared moments. The Return From Travel gallery offers a selection of artist’s books, true works of art, merging image and poetry.
With the Partage des Arts festival, the entire town becomes an open-air stage
Monumental sculptures, immersive installations, painting and photography exhibitions take over the town’s historic landmarks : the Tour d’Argent, Hôtel de Brancas, and Chapelle des Pénitents Bleus.
Each year, renowned artists are invited to the Partage des Arts Festival. Photographer Michel Kirch, known for his dreamlike and metaphysical works, was one of the guests of honor. Ndary Lo, present on the international scene (Dakar Biennale), exhibited his powerful and sensitive sculptures there. We also saw Christelle Balbinot, with her immersive installations, Corado Gardone, David Daoud, as well as emerging talents such as Clar Kellens, Senz, Gilles Grimon or Yosra Mojtahedi.
The Retour De Voyage gallery plays a key role : hosting exhibitions in dialogue with the festival and featuring major artists from its program, like Hans Silvester or Htein Lin, an engaged Burmese artist..
Many visual artists stay at La Maison sur la Sorgue, sometimes creating works on site, in collaboration with the town.

BuzzArt Festival : bringing contemporary art to the heart of the city

A more recent addition, the BuzzArt Festival aims to make contemporary art accessible to all. Here, there’s no distance : art happens in the streets, on the squares, in everyday spaces.
The inaugural edition celebrated sculptor Christophe Charbonnel, whose monumental figures already inhabit many public spaces in France and abroad. But the festival also opens its doors : to young creators, participatory workshops and live performances.
Retour De Voyage brings its distinctive touch, with exhibition trails designed as sensitive journeys, where each artwork tells a story.
Festival Festiff : when L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue goes to the Movies
